Fatality at Grove plant

A man died from a fall last week at the Manitowoc crane plant in Shady Grove. Pennsylvania.

The man, Jeffrey Cowan, 41, of Chambersburg, slipped and fell from the deck of a crane in one of the final assembly buildings at the facility on Monday January 4th.

Dennis Rooney, vice president of human resources for Manitowoc Cranes in the Americas issued a statement on behalf of the company. stating that it was investigating the cause of the accident and co-operating with the Occupational Health and Safety Administration.

“It is upsetting what happened to Jeffrey, he was a great man. Our hearts go out to his family,” He said. Cowan has worked at the Shady Grove plant for around five years.

The plant suffered a similar fatality five years ago when a man fell from the deck of a crane on the Shady Grove test bed while attempting to stow a swingaway extension.
