Excavator access

The following photograph was snapped at Patong Beach, Phuket, Thailand by an Australian reader. He spotted a man riding an excavator boom as he might ride an elephant.

One assumes that he was using the machine to reach something that was too high for any access equipment available on site? Well at least he was wearing a hard hat!
