Tower crane goes over in Hanoi

A tower crane collapsed in the centre of Hanoi, Vietnam on Friday, killing three and injuring several others.

The crane was working on the new 20 storey Vietnam Cable Television building in the Hoang Mai district. The crane operator and two others working on the crane died when the top broke free on what appears to be a luffing jib crane, possibly being climbed at the time?

There was considerable damage to cars – mostly taxis lined up in a rank and a number of bystanders are reported to have been injured.

Note:

While researching this accident for more details, we came across a further accident in Hanoi in which a tower crane collapsed. It occured on March 22nd and we missed it at the time. It seems tha the tower of that crane buckled around 20 metres up on a 30 metre crane.

No one was injured in that accident although damage was done to the building opposite.
