Walloon Death Wish

A reader in Belgium sent us a photo below of some upper limb tree trimming in Perwez a small town in south central Belgium in the province of Wallonia Brabant, the French speaking part of the country.

The tree cutter is balanced in the small loader crane grab which is operated by the crane driver below. There is nothing to stop him falling out and by the very nature of the work he is leaning forward to reach the work. One also hopes that the operator does not pull the wrong controller and dump the wood cutter.

Our reader says “The way they access the tree is obviously not safe. I also wonder how to get a firm and safe grip on the chainsaw in this position.
I hope the chainsaw-operator comes down safely (and in one piece).”

What makes this case even worse is that the vehicle, carries the insignia of the local town council and therefore one assumes that the men doing the work are employees of the local government?

Not exactly a good example to set, we concur with our correspondent and hope that the man made it down in one piece – slowly.
